Its main activity is the development of applied research projects and scientific and technical advice to public administrations and companies, in the field of natural resources and spatial planning. In its more than 35 years of activity, INDUROT has developed more than 300 research projects, consolidating itself as a university institute of reference for applied and multidisciplinary research in environmental, natural resources and spatial planning.

Main areas of research: Instruments for planning, planning and territorial management of natural resources and protected natural areas; carrying out applied territorial and environmental studies and analyses; development of systems of environmental and sustainability indicators; analysis of natural and man-made risks; conservation, monitoring and management of fauna and flora; geomorphology and soil analysis; landscape ecology and ecological connectivity; analysis and monitoring of the state of marine waters (oceanic and estuarine); environmental law; landscape restoration; environmental and natural resource economics.

Working techniques applied to natural resources and spatial planning: statistics and econometrics, environmental and territorial modelling, photointerpretation, remote sensing and processing of satellite images and LIDAR, geographic information systems, thematic cartography, environmental and social sampling, laboratory analysis, design and development of environmental and territorial information viewers.
